Vandaag op Twitter zag ik een bericht van Dan Khanna over een komende Comic-con. Nu kon ik zijn naam niet direct plaatsen in het licht van G.I. Joe, dus zocht ik op zijn account. Daar vond ik slechts 1 illustratie, erg tof, die je bovenaan dit artikel kunt zien. Maar ik kon me niet voorstellen dat die ene tweet, die ik blijkbaar nog niet had geretweet, de reden was om deze artiest te volgen, daar is meestal meer G.I. Joe saus voor nodig...
Nu is Khanna vooral bekend van zijn Transformers illustraties, maar er zijn ook heel wat G.I. Joe pareltjes uit zijn pen gekomen. Die zijn alleen elders op het web te vinden, en dubbel en dwars de moeite waard om met jullie te delen. Dus hieronder illustratie na illustratie van Dan Khanna.
Waar ik kon heb ik ook de diverse artiesten, bijvoorbeeld voor de kleuren, credit gegeven.

"G.I. Joe and The Transformers: Redux! ~Dan Khanna! (2016)
I saw Dan Khanna's amazing versions of Soundwave & Springer (my 2 favourite Transformers) and Storm Shadow (my favourite G.I. Joe-related character) and commisioned him to draw a battle between Soundwave & Storm Shadow versus Springer & my character Dengeki Ryouji, and this is the epic result! I really dig the dynamic fight poses, composition, killer style, and hyper details! And Dengeki Ryouji using his tail weapon was a super cool touch!
I designed Dengeki Ryouji as an homage to my favourite character ever, Great Mazinger, who was created by Go Nagai The Mecha Master! I, also, included some elements from the X-Men Nightcrawler [my favourite Marvel character ever, who was created by master designer Dave Cockrum] and Colossus [who was also created by The Dave Cockrum], when designing Dengeki. The Eye of Horus, samurai, and knights were also key elements in Dengeki's design."

Eigenlijk is met de volgende foto de cirkel rond, van Twitter tot aan een onverwachte Twitter. Want ondanks dat het woord G.I. Joe niet in de Tweet voorkwam, waren Snake Eyes en Zartan toch op een prachtige 80's cartoons illustratie te bewonderen.

Voor nu sluiten we af met een geweldig mooie cover voor G.I. Joe vs. Cobra #9 - Project Downfall (2016) van Fun Publications, met kleuren van Jesse Wittenrich. Deze comic is gemaakt voor de G.I. Joe Con in de zomer van 2016.
